Two DIY Bathroom Design Ideas Washington State Homeowners Can Do Themselves

If you live in Washington State and love the idea of upgrading your home, we have some DIY ideas for even the least savvy of DIY’ers. Popular rooms in a home that can be periodically redecorated or upgraded include the kitchen, living room, and bathroom. Some people may be hesitant to redo their bathrooms. They fear damaging the porcelain fixtures or the plumbing. However, people may be pleasantly surprised to learn that they can undertake several projects on their own without hiring professionals to help them. In fact, they may choose to undertake the following DIY bathroom design ideas on their own.

Painting is one project may be accomplished in less than a day. Before people redo their floors or bathroom curtains, they may first decide to paint the walls. Most people can paint their bathroom’s walls with little effort; some people even find this task to be enjoyable. The most difficult aspect of the job often tends to be selecting the best color for this room of the house.

When they have their paint selected and purchased, homeowners should first prepare their work space. Many people like to lay down old sheets or paint cloths to protect their flooring, toilet, and cabinets. They may also put duct tape around any woodwork on the walls and the bathroom’s door and window frames. The tape protects these fixtures from getting paint splatters on them.

They can begin by using small brushes first to paint around the frames, as well as the upper parts of the walls by the ceiling. When these smaller areas are painted, homeowners can switch to using a large roller brush that can cover large areas in little time. Most people apply the base coat, allow it to dry, and then finish with a final layer of paint.  In certain situations, perhaps ones involving the removal of a wallpaper or where drywall or metal is exposed, you may need to apply a primer or choose a paint/ primer combo.

With the walls painted, Washington residents without handyman skills may then decide to lay new flooring. Today’s homeowners have a range of options when it comes to flooring and regardless of how difficult this sounds, its actually much, much easier than you think. Easy to install choices include ceramic tiling, wood, or carpeting. Removing the old flooring often proves to be a bit labor intensive; however, homeowners can take their time and remove sections of the floor as they work. Most of the work can be done with a box knife or a scraping instrument.

Once they discard the old materials, they can then begin to lay down the new materials. They may need to sand any subflooring before putting down new tiles or wood panels. In fact, most home improvement retailers sell tiles and wood panels that have adhesive backings. These tiles and panels are held in place better if they are laid on subflooring that has been smoothed and sanded.

Although an online tutorial or a tutorial from your local hardware store is the most recommended path prior to installation, the general rule is that you choose a wall with the most visibility and work your way towards the other wall. It is also advised to take care that their tiles’ patterns match as they are being installed. If the ceramic tile is supposed to make a pattern after it is installed, homeowners should take the time to figure out which tiles should be laid in sequence. They may need to stack the tiles or panels in an order that allows these components to stay in sequence as the homeowners work.

Undertaking these two DIY projects with ease allows Washington homeowners to enjoy their work and be proud of their accomplishments. Before they begin, people should buy and prepare their materials.
