North Carolina's Union County
One of the most visited counties in North Carolina is Union County. This county is home to the annual horse race event, The Queens Cup Steeplechase. This race is held every year at the Brooklandwood horse track in the town of Mineral Springs. Union County is also the site for the annual Boll Weevil Festival. Union County is divided into nine townships. The county seat is the city of Monroe. Monroe is also the largest city in the county. Union County is often referred to as "Sweet Union." This has been the county's nickname for many generations. The county is located on the state boundaries for North Carolina and South Carolina. It is also a member of the regional council that is called The Centralina Council Of Governments.
The county is mainly comprised of land. There is over five hundred square miles of land in the county borders. Water makes up two square miles of the entire county area.
