It is governed by seven elected individuals who make up a commissioner-manager governmental system. This county is also a member of The Eastern Carolina Council Of Governments.
This county is home to The Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. It is also home to three colleges. These colleges are Wayne Community College, Mount Olive College, and North Carolina Wesleyan College. It is also home to numerous farms that grow tobacco, corn, wheat, cotton, and soybeans.
The geography of the county is primarily made up of land. This land is generally level with some gently rolling hills. It is also home to numerous lakes and streams. These lakes include The Nuese River, The Little River, and The NorthEastern Cape Fear River. The Nuese River is the largest waterway that is located in Wayne County. There are also several unusual bluffs located near the town of Seven Springs in this county.
