Bathroom remodeling. It just sounds expensive, doesn’t it? I mean, doesn’t a bathroom remodel mean you have to rip up the flooring, tub, sink, and toilet?
Not necessarily.

Even in these tough economic times, there are several simple renovations you can do in your bathroom that won’t leave you with an empty wallet. And with bathroom remodels fetching a high return on investment, you can make your modest budget go a long way in terms of adding value to your home.

Here are a few budget-friendly ideas for updating your bathroom…

  • Buy New Light Fixtures —Adding a new light fixture in your bathroom accomplishes a few things. First, it adds a new aesthetic to the bathroom. In many cases, a new light fixture can set the tone for the design of the rest of your bathroom, so make sure the fixture you pick matches the look you’re going for. New lighting can also increase the energy efficiency of your home. Energy efficient lighting more than pays for itself over its lifetime in reduced electricity bills. Finally, a new lighting fixture can actually open up the space in your bathroom, making it feel bigger.
  • Update Bathroom Accessories —Another budget-friendly fix is to update all of the little accessories in your bathroom. This includes the toilet paper holder, towel rack, rug, shower curtain, and any other miscellaneous accessories throughout your bathroom. Most of these accessories are inexpensive, and updating them can give your bathroom a whole new look.
  • Reface Cabinets —Cabinets are typically the one item that either makes or breaks a room, whether it’s your kitchen or bathroom. Outdated cabinets make everything else around them feel outdated too. However, don’t give into your first instinct of ripping the cabinets out and replacing them. Instead, save yourself a lot of money and simply reface the cabinets. Updating your cabinets can be as simple as getting some paint and new handles/knobs/hinges for them.  Refacing cabinets isn’t just great for new kitchens, its also a great way to spruce up your bathroom on a tight budget!
  • Don’t Forget the Paint —The fastest and most affordable way to update any room in your house is to simply paint it. This goes for your bathroom too. Think about it: what’s the first thing you notice when you walk into a new room? It’s the wall color. Since many people view the bathroom as a sort of sanctuary, it’s probably best to choose soothing colors that are easy on the eyes.

And there you have it. A few bucks here and there can take your bathroom from boring to beautiful. Remember, you don’t have to spend a lot to get a lot.
