One of the most well known counties in North Carolina is Rowan County. This county is located in, the Eastern section of, the Central part of the state. The county is comprised of 524 square miles. Land makes up 511 square miles and water make up 13 square miles of this area. The county was named after Matthew Rowan who served as acting governor for the state of North Carolina from 1753 to 1754.
